What I will study:
I am seeking to further my education by pursuing my Masters of Divinity. My MDiv will grant me the opportunity to learn the original languages of the Bible, both Greek and Hebrew in order to further my study and knowledge of the text. My preaching classes will accompany my language courses by teaching me to effectively handle and deliver the Word of God to a variety of audiences. I will be given the opportunity to take various counseling classes that will help widen my knowledge and understanding in effectively ministering to the Body of Christ. I appreciate the well-rounded education that the MDiv program has to offer to its students, and I am eager to further my education.
Why I need a scholarship: When the Lord burdened my heart to go back to school for my Masters of Divinity, I was struck with the realization that I would not be able to maintain such a rigorous schedule for long. Going to work, going to seminary, and leading a non-profit organization could not be a long-term arrangement. I believe that God desires and is honored by His children living balanced lives. And to be honest, I don’t know how long I can continue juggling such large plates without one of them suffering. However, I cannot quit my “paying” job if I am going to accept the call to go back to school. This call to go
back to school has greatly increased over the last few years, and I can no longer deny or delay the calling.
This scholarship would allow me to focus my time and energy on what God has specifically called me to do: teach the next generation to love the Lord and crave His Word. I am in need of more adequate training in the Word and in leading Legacy Living Ministries, the non-profit organization I started in 2009. Winning this Education Scholarship would take the pressure off of maintaining such unreasonable work hours,
help me focus on what really matters: our youth, and help provide more time to study and teach the Word of God. I am trusting my God to provide, and I appreciate your consideration and time in reviewing my responses for this scholarship.
How will the youth benefit from my education:
Amidst my parents’ divorce, I questioned God’s purpose in allowing me to endure such intense trials. His response: I will use your story to impact future generations of young women. I wasn’t able to fully grasp God’s response to me then, but my life calling to minister to young girls has never been clearer. Too many young girls today do not know God's Word, and in turn, are not walking in obedience to His Word. Instead, they are filled with regrets and held captive by their baggage. I firmly believe in the power of
Scripture and I am committed to teaching the next generation of young women how to apply God's Word to their lives. I believe there are few women who are educated to accurately communicate God’s Word to this hungry audience. I have sensed the need, and I have responded to the call to go back to school in order to gain a greater understanding and receive adequate training in teaching God’s Word to youth who are hungry for depth. Their faces alone describe the transformation that occurs when they are given what their hearts are crying out for. They walk in stoic and burdened and leave revived and refreshed having heard the Word of God.
During my senior year of college, I wrote a six-week devotional book for high school girls entitled, Finishing With No Regrets. This book became the follow-up study for the Finishing With No Regrets Conferences. There is a need for biblically sound material that relates to junior high and high school girls, and I have sensed the Lord burden my heart to fill this need. I am continually reminded of my responsibility to be faithful in my life calling and going to seminary would help equip me to continue to write material that teaches the next generation how to know and study God’s Word for themselves.
Furthering my education will give me the opportunity to learn the original languages of the Bible—which will in turn provide me with credibility to know the Word and communicate it accurately to the next generation. My MDiv, will equip me in counseling young girls more effectively. I will be given practical tools that will directly
aid me as I weekly minister to girls via phone, Facebook, in-person, etc.
As I lead Legacy Living Ministries to provide biblical teaching for high school girls and Discipleship Training for female leaders—I commit to passing on what I have learned in my education in order to further minister and benefit the lives of hundreds of young women affected by our ministry.
What I will gain from the education:
My Masters of Divinity will be a surging catalyst for furthering my knowledge and desire to correctly handle God’s Word. Knowing and understanding the Bible correctly is critical in having authority to preach God’s Word without apology to any group including junior high and high school girls. I know that long-term, when I am continuing my pursuit of ministering to younger women through teaching and writing, I will treasure the years I spent disciplining myself and studying to be ‘one approved’ to God (2 Timothy 2:15). Though my Communications Major was a great beginning, I believe that being equipped with a graduate education will further sharpen and equip me to better care for His body and make Him known. Pursuing a seminary degree will build a solid foundation for Legacy Living Ministries, help set the tone for a lifetime of ministry, and ultimately reach more young women for Jesus Christ. To God be the Glory.
