THE VALUE OF LIFELONG TRAINING

Learning is something that I value highly. I believe that until someone receives the proper training for something, they cannot be held accountable for how things should be. I believe that appropriate training is vital to being able to excel in this world. People need to be informed and it is then that they will be more confident and take pride and ownership in their position, whatever it may be.
There are many reasons to put priority on lifelong learning. I think to truly take advantage of the world around us we must become obsessed with learning something new everyday. I also believe strongly that this can and should be applied to our faith journeys-why should we pass up an opportunity to learn something new about our Lord or about His creation? There are infinite opportunities that lay before us and I believe that it is fundamental that we set an example for the younger generation to strive to discover new things constantly. We can never learn enough - there is no stopping point, especially when it comes to knowing God.
Leadership development is a passion of mine. I think that knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your team is essential in helping them develop and grow appropriately. I love to challenge people, including myself, to be the best that they can be. God has given us all different gifts and I love helping people discover how to use their unique traits.
There have been lifelong learners in my life that I have undoubtedly been encouraged by. One of those people is my mom. She has always told my younger brothers and I to try our best regardless of what we are doing. She always stressed that even if our best is not at the same level as someone else, it is okay as long as we know we still gave it our all. She has shown me what it means to work hard and be responsible and I hope to impress that upon the young people that I work with as well. My pastor has also been someone who has pushed me to learn. He has helped me see how much untapped potential there is in our communities and how to help people pursue their specific gifts and callings. These examples have communicated to me that learning more everyday and training ourselves up to be better Christ followers and better people should be a top priority.
One of my mentors is my pastor. He is now the campus pastor of my church, but when I was in high school he was in the youth pastor position. I formed a relationship with him and his wife that is matchless. They have taught me more about showing grace to other people and about being Christ to people in need than I could have ever imagined. He has taught me that striving for excellence is the only way to do things and he and his wife have shown me what real love and faith are all about. He strives to better himself for the people that he serves and it has inspired me to do the same.
